Welcome to Northwest Plaza!Edit
Northwest Plaza Wiki is a Wiki dedicated to the soon to close Northwest Plaza in Saint Ann, Missouri. It started as an outdoor mall opening in 1963 with five department stores. It was enclosed, finishing in 1989. The new enclosed mall contained a 12-restaurant food court as well as a massive underground arcade and a 9-screen cinema above. It is struggling with only 1 store in an anchorless run-down building, driven to its death by crime and major competetion. NWPW plans to save the memories of what was once Northwest Plaza.
When the mall opened in the late 1960s, it was one of the largest outdoor malls in the world. After the enclosure, it became the largest enclosed mall in the state of Missouri, and in the top 20 largest in the country. During its heyday, it had Stix, Baer, & Fuller, Vandervoort's, Sears, JCPenney, and Famous-Barr.
The highest grossing year the mall had in its lifetime was 2001. A steady decline began in 2002, accelerating in 2003 after the St Louis Mills opened, creating major competetion. Due to the lack of upkeep, the then current owner Westfield, decided it would be more cost effective to dispose of the property than make improvements. Thus, the mall was sold in 2006, when it was just over half occupied. The mall was known in the St Louis area as the greatest mall around, until the Mills opened in 2003, taking that title away from Northwest Plaza.
